Tengzhou has a long history and splendid culture and it ' s the birthplace of ‘ Beixin Culture ' which dates back to 7300 years ago. Tengzhou is the hometown of Mozi who was a great thinker, educator, scientist and social activist of the Spring and Autumn Periods and Warring States Period, and it was called ‘ a land where three states and five cities were located, and a place where culture was thriving ' since ancient times.

　　Since the Third Plenary Session of the 11th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, the cultural undertakings of Tengzhou has witnessed historical development. Tengzhou has been elected ‘ Advanced County in Social and Cultural Progress in Shandong Province ' , ‘ National Cultural Advanced Region ' and ‘ the Home of Chinese Calligraphy and Painting ' . The institutions directly under the Cultural Bureau of the City and part of the township and neighborhood cultural stations have entered provincial and national advanced ranks. In recent years, the Ministry of Culture has held national cultural on-site meetings and experience-exchanging meetings for three times in Tengzhou.

　　Complete cultural facilities have been built in urban and rural areas in Tengzhou. In recent years, about 10 large-scale, high-grade and multi-functional cultural facilities have been built. The museum and the gallery of drawings and statutes of Han Dynasty rank first in Shandong province, and it ' s also the number one of its kind at county-level in China . Cultural facilities in rural areas have been developing rapidly. Within the jurisdiction of the city, 17 cultural stations and 18 cinemas and theaters with more than 1000 seats each in 21 townships and neighborhoods, 860 village-level cultural compounds of various types, 1000 libraries, 7 township-level cultural squares and 5 village-level cultural squares have been built.

　　The cultural contingent is growing steadily. At present, the whole city has over 10000 professional and amateur backbone literary and art workers, 13 amateur theatrical troupes, 11 martial art and acrobatic troupes, 8 orchestras, 96 Suona playing groups, 20 literature groups of various types and 1000 self-employed cultural groups.

　　There have been countless rich fruits in cultural production. Only since 2000, 3 large operas, 8 mini-operas and short sketches, 3 long stories, 5 poems, and 2000 other literary works, paintings and calligraphies and photographic works have been produced. About 600 pieces of works have won prizes of provincial-level and above.

　　Cultural activities are rich and colorful. ‘ Traditional Culture Promotion Month ' has been held for 8 consecutive years during Spring Festivals. More than 10000 people attended this activity every year, having attracted 300000 audiences. In recent years, they organized 7 large cultural activities in Beijing , and participated in performances organized by the province and the city. In 2000, the Municipal Museum held ‘ Tengzhou Aboriginal Pottery Exhibition ' in Yamakochi of Japan, which has made Tengzhou more well-known internationally.

　　Cultural is flourishing and orderly. Cultural business entities of various types have been expanded to over 1000. A cultural market system with a complete range has been formed. Law enforcement is strict and consistent for the management work and this has created a purified and flourishing situation for cultural market, and Tengzhou has been elected as an advanced unit both in the province and in the city.
