  Meaning and history of Tengzhou: Teng, in Chinese implies that the water rushes forward. In qin dynasty, Teng county was set up. In 1988 this place was named as Tengzhou City .

  Population: the city occupies an area of 1485 square kilometers, including 21 county (street agencies) and 1226 villages (living committee). The population at the close of 2003 was 1568156, which includes 286007 urban citizens. Male and female ratio stayed at 106.5:100. The birth ratio was 8.65 ° , death ratio 5.45 ° , natural growth rate 3.2 ° . There were 29 minority ethnic groups with total 4100 people.

Government's revenue reached 1.4 billion Yuan including local government's revenue 500 million Yuan, an increase of 29% on last year calculated on constant price. At the close of 2003, the deposit balance of all financial institutions stayed at 8.725 billion Yuan, increased by 17.19 billion Yuan than the beginning of that year, including citizen's deposit balance of 6.514 billion Yuan, increased by 949 million Yuan on the number of last year. The afforestation area covers 2797 hectares in year 2003, with wood coverage rate reaching 20.1%. The total power of the city's agricultural vehicles and mechanics reached 786.1 megawatts, with an increase of 5.3%.

  Industry: There are 234 enterprises under municipal administration which realized total added value of 3.493 billion Yuan, with an increase of 59.7%. Exported goods are worth 283.3 million US dollars, with an increase of 46.9%. 97.85% of the production was sold in the market, with an increase of 0.44%. The total sales income realized by state-owned enterprises and non-governmental or collective enterprises with separate accounts and sales income above 5 million Yuan reached 13.054 billion Yuan, with an increase of 80.2%; profit 1.843 billion Yuan, with an increase of 138.5% and tax 1.006 billion Yuan, an increase of 159.6%. The industrial comprehensive economic benefit index stays at 230.45%, with an increase of 70.3%.

Export volume is 26.52 million US dollars, an increase of 52.8%; 542 projects reached contact between Chinese and foreign sides, increased by 51%; Investment from other city of china is 4.06 billion Yuan, with an increase of 51%. Foreign investment in real terms is 48.5 million US dollars, 2.9 times of last year. Tengzhou also famous for its tourist attractions such as Mozi memorial hall, Dragon Spring Pagoda, Xue State ancient city, Teng State ancient city, North Xin culture site, Mao sui funeral, red lotus wet land of Bin lake, long hill with clouds and Qinglian hill park etc. foreign and domestic tourists was 120 thousand, with tourism income 690 million Yuan, an increase of 6.7%.

  Science, education, culture and health: There are 5884 students in vocational school, 31418 students in regular senior school with an increase of 15.1%, 82831 students in regular junior school, with a decrease of 9.3%, 157768 students in pupils with a decrease of 5.9%. There are 39800 personnel's working in connection with scientific research including 1100 persons engaging in scientific study. Last year we made 61 important scientific results and received 63 patent applications, an increase of 1.6% of last year; 55 patent applications were approved last year. There are 110 health institutions, including 26 hospitals, one epidemic prevention and control institution, one maternal and child hygiene institution. All these health institutions have 4753 persons engaging in medicine including 1378 qualified doctors and can provide 3342 beds in total. Sportsmen from Tengzhou have won 66 medals, including 12 gold medals in province-level and higher level competition.

 Living condition and social welfare: Urban resident's per capita disposable income reaches 6803 Yuan, an increase of 11% calculated on constant price. Average housing stays at 29.53 square meters. Per capita income of employed workers is 9392 Yuan, an increase of 10.9%; farmers' per capita net income is 3436 Yuan, an increase of 6.1%; per capita expenditure on daily life is 2371 Yuan, with an increase of 3.1%. There are 38263 people, 16663 people in urban area and 21400 in rural area, ensured by the minimum standard of living. There are also 18 social welfare institutions (including old folk's home) with 6639 adopted persons, 3 welfare enterprises with 46 handicapped workers.
